Odyssea of Objects

by

ygologored_edited_edited_edited.png

With years, experience and a new conscience as to the world in which I evolve, my practice, just as my lifestyle in general took an eco-conscious turn. Parallel to my daily routine in which I try to escape the tendency to overconsumption and consequently the production of important quantities of waste, my production must follow a similar guideline. Therefore, listening to the medium, I began listening to what loads of material, objects, rubbish, etc. had to say. I've discovered new tools and a new game. When an object loses it material purpose, if recyclable (easily in the local facilities) I recycle it, otherwise I find it a new purpose or perhaps a new aesthetic.Welcome to an Odyssey to second chances, a creative attempt to the found object the most eco-friendly possible.

Poupou, the stinking trash-chick

2022

1 rubber pouch of an old pouf, garbage, paper maché, wood, mortar, paint and various objects.

Garbage! We talk about it, we see it, yet we don't see it anymore. However omnipresent in our life, today the challenge is to avoid that waste whatever it is gets to the landfills and thus invade and contaminate our ecosystems. Well, here's a good way to avoid that all of this rubbish gets into a landfill, because although garbage it still has consistency, interesting colours and durability making it an ideal matter to fill up this big pouch used as Poupou's body.

Head Strong

2021

Paper maché, various plastic objects, fake grass, wood panel, spray paint

Once again, a bunch of items made out of or with added questionable products when in contact with our fragile health. Head Strong reminds us of how stubborn or in denial we can be about all that toxicity, either material or conceptual, that ultimately, is poisoning us.

Beer spirituality

2020

Approx. 5000 beer caps, wood frame, steal wire.

Work accomplished with help by relatively consistant accumulation of the caps by a few people over about 10 years. The beer cap is a material with great potential and great consistency that still ends up in the garbage.

Very Hip Stuff
The Gentrification Table

2020

VHS plastic cases, wood, styrofoam, spray paint.

After watching these numerous VHS movies, I've patiently deconstructed each case to recuperate many different pieces. This table is solely made of the plastic cases.

We got wrapped up in it

2020

Various found objects (plastics, metals, wood, etc.) acrylic, wrapping paper, mod podge glue.

A broken mirror, many useless objects and wrapping paper. Once more, many objects proven to be futile despite a somewhat solid consistency. It gives us an idea of who we are as a society; we are great builders but what we build is utterly meaningless for the length of a lifetime. Have we got stalled on Cape Diem?

Con Seated

2019

Various found objects (plastics, metals, clothes and material, wood and log, etc.) glued, paper maché and acrylic

An old resewed and repaired pouffe that still wasn't comfortable. I created a wood structure in order to place what was left of the pouffe still colourful and visually interesting in balance on it. Apart from glue and staples, here is a piece entirely made of found, recuperated and repurposed objects

Mr. Robot Lite

2019

Wood, wood beads, glue, epoxy and lamp.

An old broken wood pearl curtain kept for many years in a bag, until creativity gave it completely different second life.

How earth became flat

2019

Various found objets (mostly plastics) and latex paint on wood

It is the last piece before initiating the project. It's an old artwork that broke fusioned (almost literally) with a new one. Thus originally started a few years ago, some of the recycling facilities didn't exist back then, so I started gathering and sticking together the now unused objects. HTEBF figuratively represents the invasion of objects on our beautiful green planet.

Winchester Table

2018

Pieces of various types of wood, plastique, metal, epoxy, paper maché, mod podge paper, material, belt, light and glass

Hair 69

2018

Synthetic hair extensions, acrylic, latex and found objects on canvas

51 cm X 41 cm (20" X 16")

After my old roommate took off her extensions, I couldn't help but reuse these for an art project and avoid having all this plastic going in the trash. And so I created...

Old useless answering machine and acrylic on canvas

To not question so much

2011

Various found objects (plastics, metals, material, etc.) glued, painted and varnished

This strange creature is the symbol of the invasion of the object. As of its creation, the artist realizes the importance of rejected matter in his own life and on the planet and discovers the possibility to use this useless object as medium. It is also a strong turn in his artistic career: some sort of rebellion against the excessive intellectual pondering in the so called world of ideas; a kind of I live, I create and I do not question too much. This does not avoid the thinking process in art but makes it more genuine.

Electr Rony

2011

This piece, physically deconstructing a PC spread out on wood plank and decorated with paint refers to the inner beauty, the beauty of the rubbish, to the contraste of possibilities in the unexpected. The title Elect Rony is a play on word but provides the idea of choice (of election): the choice to change things. It's one of the project that inspired the creation (on a period of many years) the Odyssea.

The equilibrium of imperfection

2010

Found objects (plastics and metals) glued and welded together

This sculpture is my first work with the found object. It represent the possible and plausible harmony between different material.
